Shirley Erlandsen is an award winning watercolor artist
from Spokane, WA.
As she seriously believes that anyone can learn
anything that they really wish to, she began “playing” with watercolor in
1979. Then life intervened, making it difficult for her to do much with it
until 1997. In 1997, she began reading all that she could find on
watercolor, studying and applying herself in order to become more proficient
in the required skills.
She loves the spiritual quality of watercolor, and
likens it to the text in Genesis 1, “...and the Spirit moved upon the face
of the waters...” Therefore, each painting becomes an adventure in the act
of creation, and she is always delighted to be a participant in that action.
If you look closely you will find the word “Abba”
hidden somewhere in each painting. In this way she gives thanks to the
source of her inspiration.
She has studied with Judi Betts, Judy Treman, Diane
Maxey, Lian Zhen, Ron Ranson, Tom Lynch, Jan Wallake, and Stan Miller.
Shirley is a member of the Spokane Watercolor Society
and a signature member of the Montana Watercolor Society.
