October 9th Art Walk
November 13th Art Walk
Andy and Vern
*Note****** it will be a shorter time in the window as we
would like to put the Christmas tree and decorations
up on Thanksgiving or the Friday morning after Thanksgiving.
December 4th Art Walk
All members will be featured. *NOTE**** Art Walk is First
Friday in December but
at the Chamber meeting of the Art Alliance in January 2009 it
was brought up that many customers forgot about the change in
dates and show up on the
second Friday and so several of the Galleries make a point of
staying open late on the night. I think we should too if
possible.

July
Rick Barlow's photography and Vern Judkins' unique wood work will be
featured through the month of July.
Artist's reception to be held on Friday July 11th from 5 pm to 8 pm.
Rick Barlow"s photography show "Orni-Vita"
(literally translated; bird-life) A collection of various bird
portraits and candid compositions.
As gift under the Christmas tree in 1967, Rick's
first camera was a
Kodak Instamatic-104. Rick's gear and the vision
have matured somewhat; His drive to satisfy our need for reflection,
connection, and discovery, remains. Twenty rewarding years have been
spent searching canyons, mountains, and communities of the West for
moving moments that fit these needs. Rick's work has received many
awards at local shows over the years. Most recently he has had images
displayed in juried shows at Spokane City Hall and in the Washington
State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle. He has been published in
magazines, such as "Paddler", and in promotional brochures.
What Rick values most in his imaging is the use of
photography to tell a story; Most every image on show likely has
several ‘companion’ images in his library. These different shots
compliment each other and work together to describe a geographic region,
an ecosystem, a culture, or an activity.
Vern Judkins is a Northwest sculptor who transforms wood, silver and semi-precious stones into contemporary sculptural forms.
He was born and has spent most of his life in the Northwest and in
1973 earned a BFA from Washington State University.
His
father gave him a Cub Scout knife when he was a child and he has
whittled and carved wood ever since. Over the years as he explored
different forms, textures and colors, his functional wood pieces have
transitioned from strictly utilitarian, to the more sculptural. The
organic shapes of nature and the ancient Greek classic shapes are the
main influences for his work. Inspiration from the wood itself often
dictates the shape he will carve. Most of his pieces are made from
local woods he finds or from family and local contacts.
His jewelry pieces are made using the lost wax process and like
all of his wood pieces, are one of a kind.

August

Wilson and Alison Meyer's "Photo Glass Images"
through the month
of August. Also on display, the work of over 40 different NW artists.

Alison Meyer has
been photographing the Inland Northwest for almost 20 years and this
show features new presentations of her images printed on unique
substrates. Several of her North Idaho outdoor photographs printed on
plexi-glass will be displayed, including images of Lake Coeur d'Alene.
These pieces have a very modern, clean look without the distraction of
picture frames and they allow light to be an even more important element
of the photographic imagery. Photos printed on canvas will be featured
as well.
